Today is a new start

I got accepted by Creative Circus and I accepted their offer!  I am so excited to start my new life as a future art director.  I wanted to do something creative for awhile now, and I finally find the outlet.  I can’t wait to start.

Axe shower gel ad

You gotta love whomever is the ad agency for Axe.  I love every one of their ads.  Yes, most of them have scantily clad girls, but I am not one of these girls who gets offended because a half-naked girl is used as a device to sell a product to males.  I could care less.  Sex sells, FFS, so get over it!  No, I am not going to spend one more minute talking about that.  These ads are funny and does drive the point home that without these products, you won’t get laid, period!  It goes for the unconscious need that man have to mate with some chick, preferably a hot one.  This appeal to what truly motivates men, in terms of personal hygiene, shows how the company that produces AXE are savvy marketers.  Just like the feminine products of the early 20th century, whose ad appealed to women’ s need to look young and fresh, in order to “catch” a husband, AXE pinpoints how important women consider good hygiene as a quality in a man.  Let’s face it girls, who wants to date a “stinky ass” dude?!  I am not saying that I would like my potential mate to be drench in cologne(in fact, I do not like it), but at least, it would be nice to have a man who smells good, even if its a faint smell.   These ads are perfect to bring that fact into men’s consciousness and they are creative to boot!

The California fires: Enough already

California

This whole incident, albeit tragic for the victims, is nonetheless an affront to the Katrina victims. Yes, people lost their houses, yes there were a few deaths, yes it is sad, but most (if not all) of the victims can afford to rebuild their houses, unlike the victims of Katrina. Furthermore, the devastation that was laid by Katrina in New Orleans and Mississippi is far greater than that of California. Added to absurd situation, the fact that Bush responded so fast to the Malibu fires, is outrageous. Oh, the poor rich people of Malibu, oh art though going to do without your multi million dollar house? Let’s send them some food that they can afford on their own and give them shelter (when they have houses everywhere in the world), shall we? It is a slap on the face of the thousands of people who were displaced during Katrina. Add insult to injury, this fire might have been averted if a young boy hadn’t light a match, that started this whole ordeal! Oh and another thing, why did the media focused on the celebrities who lost their homes? Like I give a fuck that some Hollywood tart won’t be sleeping in her lovely mansion tonight! Why do we treat these people like gods, when they do not deserve it. I say, enough already, let’s talk about things that matters, for fuck sake!

Vinyl versus CDs: an instropective on the subject matter

_mg_5673.jpgWhy is it such a recurring theme in all EDM-based message boards? Why do we keep on comparing both mediums, which couldn’t be more different from each other? Is the fear of technology that brings purists to dislike CDs. Is it the lack of nostalgia, that makes the cd jocks spit on vinyl? I don’t know and I don’t give a fuck! As a dj, who’s been spinning for the past five years, I have use both medium to spread the gospel of house music. I fell in love not with the mediums, but with the music. However, I am partial to vinyl, because it represents the physicality of the music; holding a record in my head, feels like I am touching the music, feeling its grooves, manipulating it the way I want it. Furthermore, when record stores were still standing in Atlanta, it was a joy to go spend an entire day and dig through the crates, the find the gem that you will play later on for your friends or at club. MP3’s can never beat that feeling! It is simply not the same. Sifting through countless wav/MP3s files, listening to snippets of a track is not same as laying down the records on MKII at some dusty record store and listening to the track in its entirety (unless the track sucks). Then, flipping that record to listen to its B-side. That feeling is gone when you sit down on the computer and listen to what the download website wants you to hear. No, I am not spitting on these websites; as I mentioned above, I also use cd’s. Especially, in my current financial situation, MP3s are a cheap way to keep me current and to allow me, the chance to get tracks Just-In-Time, when I have a gig and no new tracks to play. However, I lament the lack of warmth that I use to get when perusing the record store, talking to the clerk and other djs who were looking for that special record, just like you. Comparing vinyl and cds, is just like comparing apples and oranges, you just don’t do it.
